OCSSCO originated as a rural schemes development project in 1996–1997 and evolved into a microfinance institution.
It operates 339 branches across Oromia, Harar, Finfine (Addis Ababa), and Dire Dawa, with substantial assets, capital, and deposits, and a large active client base supported by a sizable workforce.
